Anonymous asked: Philosophy is either completely trite or a complete waste of time. Argument: Either philosophy consists of the engaged analysis of one's day to day activities, which is trite because the consistent analysis of temporary events is the definition of triteness and banality, or philosophy consists of the meta-ization of every argument from X to "what is the justifcation for X" which of course has no non-arbitrary stopping point and is therefore pointless to engage.Horns of a dilemma upon you.

In philosophy you learn both form and content. This means that some of philosophy is a history class where you learn about important people and what they thought. You also learn the form however, which means that by writing a paper about differing arguments on abortion, you learn what makes up a good argument and what is flawed about a particularly poor argument. This means you can do things like talk your way out of a speeding ticket for the rest of your life.
